World of Warships: what this site can tell you, and what to check first

World of Warships is the one game on Proxima Hub we cover by name, and it is the game we earn an affiliate commission from. This page is deliberately limited. It sets out what the description we work from says, points out what it does not say, and applies the checks from our other guides so you can decide for yourself.

The short answer

World of Warships is a desktop game for Windows and Mac. It is not offered for Linux under the programme we take part in. The programme is for new players, and what it counts is a download followed by creating and activating an account. For price, system requirements, age rating and anything else, go to the vendor's own site and to PEGI.

What the description we rely on states

We do not make claims about the game beyond what we can support. Our product information comes from the description supplied with the affiliate programme, and we have kept to it. The table below shows what that description covers and what it does not.

What is stated, and what is not, in the description we work from

Bonus and invite codes

We do not publish bonus, invite or promotional codes for World of Warships on this site. Codes like these have expiry dates and conditions, and an out-of-date code helps nobody. Codes spread on forums or in video descriptions are also a common lure for fake login pages. If you are told about a code, check it on the game's own site. Do not enter your login details anywhere else to "claim" it. Our account security guide explains why.

Checks to make before you download

  1. Confirm your computer is a Windows PC or a Mac

The programme we take part in is desktop only and does not include Linux. If you use Linux, this offer is not for you, and we do not suggest ways round that.

  2. Look up the age rating

Search for the game on PEGI's website and read the descriptors, including any about in-game purchases or random items. This site is written for adults and does not present the game as suitable for children.

  3. Read the vendor's system requirements

Compare them with your computer's specification, as described in our compatibility guide.

  4. Find out how the game is paid for

Look at the vendor's own information on pricing and any in-game purchases. If there are purchases, set a monthly limit before you play. Our spending guide explains how.

  5. Prepare your account details

Choose a unique password, and decide which email address you will use. You will need access to that inbox to activate the account.

Creating and activating the account

The programme we take part in counts three steps: downloading the game, creating an account, and activating it. Activation usually means confirming your email address through a link sent to you. That confirmation is worth doing for its own sake, because a confirmed address makes recovery easier if you ever lose access. If no confirmation email arrives, check your spam folder. Then use the vendor's own support pages rather than any third-party "help" site.

Use an email address you can still reach in a year's time. A work address or an inbox you rarely check makes later recovery harder, and recovery depends almost entirely on that address. If you already have an account for this game, the programme we take part in does not apply to you, because it is for new players only.

Once the account is active, follow the steps in our account security guide. Turn on two-step verification if the game offers it, keep backup codes offline, and only save a card if you mean to spend.

Applying our general guides to this game

Everything in our general guides applies here as it would to any other online PC game. Before you start, decide what kind of time commitment suits you. The choosing guide suggests setting a review date, after which you ask honestly whether the game has earned its place in your week. If the vendor's information shows purchases inside the game, convert any virtual currency into pounds before buying. Treat any items with randomised contents with the extra care described in our spending guide. If anyone else in your household uses the same computer, read the section on shared computers in the security guide.

If you decide the game is not for you, uninstall it through your operating system's normal method. If you want the account closed as well, use the account management options on the vendor's official site. Uninstalling the game does not, by itself, close the account or delete the data held with it.

Questions we cannot answer, and who can

We cannot help with gameplay, billing, bans or account recovery for World of Warships. Only the game's operator can see your account. Use the support route on the vendor's official website. For general consumer rights over digital content, Citizens Advice is the right starting point. For concerns about how a company handles your personal data, see the Information Commissioner's Office.

Why we cover this game

We cover World of Warships by name because we have an affiliate arrangement for it, not because we have judged it better than other games. We have not ranked it, scored it or tested it, and we do not claim to have done so. The general guides on this site do not depend on the arrangement and apply equally to any online PC game you might be considering.

If you have read the checks above and want to look at the vendor's site, this is the same link as before.
